I'm picky when it comes to my closet. SUPER picky. In fact, I've established a new rule for my closet (and house!) - that if I don't LOVE it, I don't buy it. And by "buy it" I mean - allow it into my house. (I'm kind of an expert at finding things for free, so I've had to learn how to apply the same LOVE IT LITMUS to free stuff too.)
Since it's the holiday season, and you're on the hunt for the perfect gift (for yourself OR a loved one) I thought I'd share with you some of MY FAVORITE THINGS, all of which passed the LOVE IT LITMUS with flying colors. Everything here would make a great gift for the right gal. (Remember, don't just buy to buy! Buy because it's the right thing!)
Here goes... in no particular order, because they are ALL my favorite!
1. Nickel & Suede Earrings
I've told you about them before (How to Integrate Metallics Into Your Wardrobe), and I'm telling you about them again! These earrings are light weight, made in the USA, and crazy affordable. You can up your metallic game, or go with a color. I just ordered the Scarlet Suede and the Navy Baby earrings for myself the other day! Eep! I can't wait for them to arrive!
My newest most favorite cuff is straight from Saint Petersburg, Russia! My new friend, Anastasia, makes these cuffs herself, from upcycled Russian Pavlovo Posad shawls and scarves, and they are simply divine! They cost only $40 - and the shipping is FREE to the USA!
I have a particular affinity for this region of the world, as I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Moldova from 03 - 05. If you know ANYBODY with ties to Russia - this would make a LOVELY gift!
3. Frye Boots
I've wanted a pair of Frye boots for YEARS, and I finally bought myself a pair of Frye Campus 14G boots last month on Amazon for only $165 (they are being discontinued) - and they are everything I hoped they would be!
I've heard from so many women that these boots last for years. In fact, some of my gal pals have had their Frye's for over 20 years! You know that I don't buy new very often, but I think this was a worthy investment.
4. Megan Auman Jewelry
I've never ever worn a ring this big before, but HOLY MOLY do I love my new Contra ring! Some of my girlfriends have the "tiny" contra ring, and let me tell you, they are the sweetest.
I have a lot of Megan's jewelry, and seriously, you can't go wrong with any of it! You are wearing a piece of handmade art, and it's worth every single penny you pay for it.
Yep, you heard me right. I'm telling you that one of my faaavorite things is a pair of YOGA PANTS! I've had a terrible time finding a pair that look decent on me, as it seems most pairs of yoga pants are made for the skinny, long legged gazelle. I am a triangle. My thighs are heavy, and they have cellulite. Almost every pair of yoga pants I've tried on in the past 5 years has emphasized my thighs in a way that did NOT flatter. Then I found these, and they actually made me cry happy tears. If you are hip heavy, and have a triangle body shape (that is to say, your chest and waist are narrower than your hips/thighs) - or know somebody who is , then I HIGHLY recommend these pants! They hang beautifully, and run true to size. I love them, and want ALL THE COLORS!
6. GAP denim vest
I thrifted this GAP denim vest early this spring, and wore it a TON this year! It makes me feel badass, and that is worth its weight in gold! The trick to finding a good denim vest (or denim jacket) is finding the right length! For most women, the shorter the better!
Gap doesn't have them for sale right now, but J.Crew does, and it's a beauty! You could also try Ebay or some other online consignment shops.
These MADE IN VERMONT socks are the best! As a Vermonter myself, it's sock season almost 11 months of the year here (slight hyperbole), so finding good socks is paramount in the quest of eliminating cold ice-block feet. These wool socks ARE NOT ITCHY, and believe it or not, they are Guaranteed for LIFE! I don't know how that makes sense for a pair of socks, but it's true, and I love them for it!
I just bought about 30 pairs of socks at their factory sale a few weeks ago, so yea, I love them.
I have two of them (red + silver), and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! It's the best wallet I've EVER carried, and I can't imagine carrying anything else.
9. Athleta Bathing Suit
I can't believe I'm saying that a BATHING SUIT is one of my favorite things! Because really. Bathing suit! I already told you that I have heavy thighs with cellulite - so you wouldn't think BATHING SUIT would be on my list. But it is. Because finding the right suit is like MAGIC!
This spring I went bathing suit shopping - and called it a FREEDOM EXPEDITION - because that's what it was. Freedom to run and play at the beach with my kids, without feeling over exposed and self conscious. I wrote a well loved blog post about it HERE, so hop on over and read all about it!
I'm wearing THIS suit in the picture, but also bought THIS ONE and THIS ONE this fall because they are on SUPER SALE!! (If you're skin coloring is anything like mine, the last suit that I linked to will look AMAZING on you, and it's only $18!!)
10. Winter Headband
I have three winter headbands, and they are a short-haired-girl, winter-hair game changer! I can put this on in the morning, take it off in the afternoon, and not look like a fuzzy q-tip! Mine were either gifted or thrifted, but you can find them most anywhere. I recommend looking on Etsy to find something handmade!
There you have it folks! My TOP 10 MOST FAVORITE (giftable) THINGS!!
My love affair with accessories is clearly A REAL THING, as you can see by the many repeats in the pictures!! And let me tell you - you're more likely to hit a home run gifting an accessory than you are a pair of jeans!! Because accessories fit EVERYBODY! Plus, I haven't met a gal yet who isn't working to up her Power Accessory game!
Let me know if you take me up on any of these suggestions, or if you found this list helpful!
Shop wisely, my friends! And please, feel free forward this post to YOUR gift giver, with a little nudge-nudge ;)
(PS. Some of the jewelry seen here was gifted to me by the jeweler [and is marked with a *] because I loved their work and reached out to them as a collaborator. The rest I bought myself, because I'm in love.)
