What is the PURPOSE of the Mexican Beach, Bodies & Bikinis Retreat?

It's simple. I am running the Beach Bodies and Bikinis Retreat because it is time for us to redefine what a beach-body looks like. The culture of body shaming and body hate has gotten so ugly and so massive and so global, it is silencing women around the world.  Which if you ask me, means it's an epidemic.

During SSS, I work hard to create a space and place for women to unequivocally love and accept and understand their bodies. No matter their shape. No matter their size.

And let's be honest... it's one thing to LOVE YOUR BODY when you've got all your clothes on. It's a whole 'nother ballgame to LOVE YOUR BODY when you're standing on the beach, in front a bajillion strangers, in your cheeky bikini.  I wish it wasn't true, but it is.

So we're taking Style School to the beach, where together, we will PRACTICE being FREE from the grips of body shame. In our bikinis.

You've all heard the story before... When I took my first ever trip to Mexico a couple of years ago, I experienced something I had NEVER experienced before. For the first time in my life, I was ashamed of my bathing suit, and NOT my body.

Although I had done a lot of work over the years around body love and body acceptance, I had never gone to a beach in the US, whether it be pond, lake, river or sea, and felt completely FREE in my body.  And it was no wonder, because for as the far as the eye could see, the only bodies I saw on the beach were hidden under coverups.  Sure, there was the occasional mama braving the beach in her tankini and skirt, but not without moving cautiously and carefully, conscious of every wiggle and jiggle, pucker and dimple.

When I went to the beach in Mexico, I saw ALL THE BODIES on the beach. I saw big boobies and small boobies, big butts and small butts, big bellies and small bellies. And all the bodies were in BIKINIS!!  And I couldn't believe how FREE everybody looked, and how freely women moved in their bodies. These women were not hiding or covering up. They were LIVING.

I want that freedom for myself. And I want it for my Style Sisters!

In Mexico we will...

  • Eat authentic home-cooked meals together, prepared by our house chef, Danny, and not worry about what our full bellies look like in our bikinis
  • Laugh so hard our buns will jiggle, and we won't feel bad about it
  • Do cannonballs into the pool, and celebrate who can make the biggest splash
  • Explore the beaches, lagoons and cenotes of the Maya Riviera, wearing our cheeky-cheeky-cheeky bikinis (and wishing we had gone even cheekier!)
  • Practice BEING IN our bodies, so that we can collectively process through, and let go of the painful body-shame we hold inside ourselves
  • Celebrate our boobies, butts and bellies with a little BBB FIESTA!

Questions & Answers

Q. What airport should I fly into, and at what time?
A. You should book your flight into Cancun (CUN), Mexico, and plan to arrive between the hours of noon and 4pm EST on either Sunday, March 3rd OR Sunday, March 10th, depending on which retreat you selected.  A private shuttle will be available to transport you from the airport to Casa Iguana in Akumal during those hours.  If you are arriving earlier than noon, or after 4pm on the arrival date, then you will be responsible for your own transportation. I can give you directions to Casa Iguana in Akumal to hand to your shuttle or taxi driver.

Q. Do I have to pay for retreat all at once?
A. No, a non-refundable $500 deposit is required to hold your spot. The cost of retreat ranges from $1900 - $2500, depending on the room you choose.  Payments can be made in monthly installments (less the $500 deposit) between now and December 31st, 2018 when all final payments are due. (You also have the option of paying in full, or paying in 2 lump payments. I'm flexible.)

Q. What's your cancellation policy?
A. Well I hope you never need it, but... if you cancel before January 1st, 2019 you will receive a full refund, minus the $500 deposit. If you cancel AFTER January 1st, you will not be eligible for a refund.

No one books a retreat with the intention of cancelling, but unexpected life-things do happen, so I highly encourage you to purchase travel/cancellation/emergency insurance once you make your reservation.  Most travel insurance plans will cover trip cancellation due to emergency, sickness or inclement weather.  Depending on the policy and conditions, travel cancellation insurance will pay for some or all cancellation fees.  Most travel insurance companies offer free quotes online.  Here are links to just a few of the websites that you may want to check for comparing the cost of coverage and policies offered: Squaremouth, Travel Guard, and Allianz.  Please read the fine print or speak to a customer service representative to ensure you get the most coverage for your buck.

Q: What if YOU cancel the retreat, Stasia?
A:  It would take an act of God to keep me away... but if I must cancel a booked retreat date for any reason, I will grant you a full refund.

I will not, however, be responsible for your expenses incurred in preparation for any cancelled retreat, such as airline tickets, loss of work, and/or other costs associated with preparing for your trip.

Q. What should I pack?
A. Besides your body, a sarong, and a couple of bikinis?  Not much.  I'll tuck a packing list inside your registration/welcome packet, so keep your eyes open for that.

Q. Is this a LUXURY retreat?
A. Well, it depends on what you call luxury.  The main house and the adjacent casita at Casa Iguana - our home base for the week - are not resort-fancy, and that is exactly WHY I love them so much.  The sheets on your bed might not match, the rooms are oddly shaped, the internet is spotty, and you'll likely hear birds chirping through the thatched roof in the casita.  I think that adds to the charm and local flavor of Casa Iguana, but if you're looking for more of a resort-style, luxury-getaway than this may not be the retreat for you.  What you can expect at Casa Iguana are incredible views, a fantastic location smack between Akumal Bay and Halfmoon Bay, a kind and gracious housekeeper who will make your bed every single day, a beachside swimming pool with comfy lounge chairs, a palapa-with-hammocks overlooking the sea, a gorgeous outdoor dining area for us to enjoy our meals, and a property manager/chef named Danny that will marvel you with his kindness, gentleness, humor... and of course, his pico de gallo and guacamole!  He even does all the dishes for us!  And best of all, you've got your sisters, who have come together from ALL OVER THE WORLD to love, nurture, explore, open, let go, share, and marvel at both the body-scapes and the land-scapes that surround us all!!  I call THAT luxury!

Q. How many people will be attending this retreat?
A. There will be 8 of us.

"I came home from the BBB Retreat feeling way more confident in my body! It was great to practice bikini time in many different places, but also to have it be normal and a topic of discussion with all the women. Also, Style Sisters are the best!!! The conversations we had were so helpful! And seeing women who looked different than me also helped me realize bodies are ALL different! There was not one feature that looked the same on all 8 of us and all were beautiful! No one looks like the “ideal” of beauty, but we are all so beautiful. I recommend all SSS sisters attend a retreat if they are able. It’s a wonderful opportunity to apply SSS skills in a supportive environment!"
